Planned Parenthood to stay out of Pasco for now; Children safe to enjoy corn maze

From our Pasco correspondent:

The Pasco City Planning Commission met this evening (Thursday Sept. 17, 2009) to vote on the special permit request to locate a Planned Parenthood facility adjacent to Mark Twain Elementary. Since the last meeting Planned Parenthood has offered to place a 6-ft high brick wall separating the clinic (where abortions could potentially be performed) from the elementary school.

After much deliberation at the on how to present the vote to the city council, the commission voted 3 to 2 to recommend denial of the permit to Planned Parenthood. The denial recommendation now goes to the city council. During the meeting the director of the City Economic Development, David White stated to planning commission the "staff" are in favor of approving the permit.

After the meeting Planned Parenthood advised a television reporter they were going to appeal the decision. I learned their appeal will be presented to the City Council along with the decision by the commission. The next city council meeting is scheduled for October 5th, but the appeal process could run into early November.

It is very important that the Pasco Community keep up the momentum we have gained in the past two months to oppose the special permit by calling the city planning commissioner, their councilmen/women, and by prayers during the coming 40 days campaign. It is important to note that the permit appeal process begins at almost the very same time the 40 days for Life campaign begins.

The Tri-City Herald has published their version of events and also announced the pleasant news that the planning commission did approve a request for a corn maze. The children of Pasco will be safe from the perverts at Planned Parenthood for another few months.

Council Meeting is Tonight (August 20, 2009)

The Pasco Planning Commission reconvenes tonight to make a (presumably) final decision on whether or not Planned Parenthood of Central Washington (PPCW) will be allowed a permit to open a clinic on Court Street, near Mark Twain Elementary School.

Everyone who cares about the community is encouraged to come out and make sure the council understands that there is no way these people should be allowed to set up shop in Pasco.

We have presented exhaustive documentation on this site as to why not only should this application be rejected out of hand, but if anything, an investigation should be opened up into this organization on many fronts.

We should point out that we have repeatedly contacted PPCW to ask them for comment on the contents of this site, and asked them to help us correct any erroneous allegations we have made. We have heard nothing back from them. That may or may not be construed as a tacit admission.

It's interesting that this decision is coming on the same day that Planned Parenthood of Spokane, currently headed up by PPCW's president Anna Franks, has to respond to the recent audit that found them guilty of overbilling Medicaid by at least $629,000. Despite repeated calls, Ms. Franks and her attorney have yet to respond to us as to whether or not they are paying the bill, or filing an appeal.

Planned Parenthood of Eastern Washington Found Guilty of Medicaid Overbilling, Told to Repay Over $700,000

We reported in an earlier post that Olympia was in the process of auditing Planned Parenthood of Spokane (PPS) for Medicaid overbilling. That audit has now been finalized, as reported by the blog Abortion In Washington. You can read all about it here.

It's extremely important to point out that PPS is now being run by Anna Franks, the CEO of PP of Central Washington, which is trying to bully its way into Pasco.

To date, she has not answered any questions about her role in all of this, whether PP of Central Washington is guilty of the same illegalities, and if so, what their plans are to rectify the situation, including possible resignations of responsible individuals.

It defies any sense of normalcy to continue to consider Ms. Franks' Pasco application until the investigations have been completed and this scandal has been resolved. We call on the Planning Commission to demand answers from Ms. Franks to all the questions from this and the other scandals reported on this blog before considering their application any further.

"My (Unwanted) Abortion at Planned Parenthood of Central Washington"

When Christine Weideman, 30, heard that Planned Parenthood wanted to open a clinic in her home town of Pasco, she knew she had to do something. Her story as a former client of their neighbouring Kennewick abortion clinic was deeply painful, but she knew she had to overcome the trepidation of sharing it in front of the Pasco Planning Commission and the crowd of strangers, including Planned Parenthood activists, who would be there.

She got to share the two minute version of her story, but we asked her for the full version.

"I found out I was pregnant 14 years ago, when I was 16. I went to Planned Parenthood in Kennewick for a pregnancy test. They told me I was pregnant then asked me if I wanted to schedule an abortion. It wasn't five minutes since I had found out I was pregnant -- I was still processing the shock -- when they asked me if I wanted to go ahead and schedule an abortion. The lady was very cold. It was clear I was just one of millions to her. She couldn't care less about me."

Mrs. Weideman's revelations directly contradict the image Planned Parenthood and its supporters in Olympia conjure up for itself with claims about providing balanced counseling that focuses on helping clients make their own decisions.

"I was terrified. There was no ultrasound. No information or conversation about adoption or parenting options. They didn't ask about my parents, or the age of my boyfriend. They just sent me home with a packet of information."

The blog Abortion In Washington directly challenged Planned Parenthood of Western Washington spokesman, Brian Cutler, in 2006, on whether his organization showed women ultrasounds of their babies to help them make an informed decision, like many Pregnancy Resource Centers are doing these days. Without directly answering the question, he claimed his organization never withheld information from clients. He refused to substantiate his assurances.

"All They Told Me Was How To Get the State to Pay for It"
Mrs. Weideman's story about the lack of proper informed consent at Planned Parenthood may raise legal questions. It's possible they broke the law – and still are – even in the abortion "wild west" of Washington State.

"The only thing they told me about besides abortion was how to go to the state welfare office to sign up to get the government to pay for it. They even said they'd arrange transportation for me to get to there."

"No-one counseled me about possible physical or emotional repercussions from the abortion, like possible perforation of my uterus which could have left me unable to have children. No-one gave me information about the impact on my body. They just told me I'd feel happy and relieved and life will go back to normal."

Nothing could have been further from the truth.

"I didn't get any information about the abortion itself until about 10-15 minutes before the actual operation."

And then there was the coercion. AIW also asked Mr. Cutler if they did abortions on women and girls when it is clearly not their choice, but rather are being pressured by parents, boyfriends, husbands, or abusers. Again, all Mr. Cutler had was denials with bland assurances. These assurances are belied by Mrs. Weideman's testimony, which lines up with many other similarly harrowing accounts.

"I Didn't Want an Abortion"
She told me that when she came back from the welfare office, her parents learned about the pregnancy. Their reaction was to tell her she had "no choice" but to get an abortion. In addition, the baby's father just did the deer-in-the-headlights, "I'll support you whatever you decide" routine, which Mrs. Weideman described as "no support at all".

"I didn't want to have an abortion, but I felt a horrible amount of pressure from everyone." Now you might have expected that Planned Parenthood, which goes on and on about being "pro-choice", and doing anything to ensure women have the "right to choose", would have nothing to do with a coerced abortion, right?

You’d be wrong.

"The night before I was sobbing and sobbing. It was absolutely horrible."

A close family member drove her to the Planned Parenthood clinic in Kennewick. Mrs. Weideman said there were about ten other girls in the waiting room, all under 20, everyone sitting in silence, staring down, looking terrified, hardly a scene that cries out empowered women proudly making free choices about their lives. "You could almost feel the atmosphere of fear."

Regarding the impending procedure, she emphasized: "I was just terrified. I knew it would be horrible."

Did the Planned Parenthood staff stop when they saw that their client was clearly not ready? No.

"A Horribly Painful Process"
Instead, when she was called, she says the counselor just went through a sanitized, and inaccurate, version of what would happen next. "She told me that they would insert a tube inside me that would remove 'the products of conception'." When Mrs. Weideman asked if it would hurt, the counselor, whose name she doesn't remember, glibly replied "less than childbirth"! In fact, Mrs. Weideman was about to find out that it was "a horribly painful process."

Again, PP staff gave her no information about the physical risks during the procedure if she, say, moved at the wrong time, or how to signal if she was uncomfortable, or emotional risks afterwards. Many critics have wondered how Planned Parenthood is able to get away with these flagrant violations of informed consent laws. Mrs. Weideman suspects the shame of the victims ends up leading them into silence, thus letting PP get away with it.

She said that even though she wasn't informed of any risks whatsoever, they seemed to indicate they knew something they weren't telling, because the last thing they did was have her sign a waiver, so that no matter what happened next, she couldn't sue. "If the doctor came in drunk and I bled to death, we couldn't do anything." She pointed out the "huge double standard" involved when it comes to abortion compared to real health care. "If something goes wrong when you have your wisdom teeth out, you can sue. If something happens during an abortion, no."

"No, You Can't"
Then came another shocking violation of her rights to informed consent. A nurse was doing an ultrasound to see the head, body, hands, feet, fingers, and toes of the "products of conception" that was about to be removed. The monitor was carefully turned away so that Mrs. Weideman couldn't view the images. "Can I see it?" she asked. The nurse said she had to go talk to someone about that. She came back and said: "It's not our policy".

"She refused to let me see the ultrasound, to let me have accurate information about the abortion procedure they were about to do,” to see what thes “products of conception” actually looked like.

Mrs. Weideman's emotional and physical condition worsened. She said she was "on the point of going into shock." At that point the the doctor came in. She wasn't prepared to go into the exact details of the procedure itself, because "it was too horrible to remember."

"I Begged Them To Stop"
It turns out she was further along than they had told her. But they never told her this, or what it meant. She only learned this in part from overhearing the nurses, and in part from medical records which she got hold of two years later -- and she had to force them to hand over her records, she said. "They didn't want to do give them to me."

The result was that the doctor "had to use a larger instrument on me".

"I begged the doctor to stop. I was going to throw up. In the end, the nurse had to force the doctor to stop."

Mrs. Weideman said she did throw up. Then the doctor, whose name she doesn't remember, finished removing the remains of her now dead baby.

Suicidal, Depressed, Nightmares
"Afterwards there was lots of fallout of course. I was pretty much suicidal. I was depressed all the time. I started making lots of poor life decisions, doing things to hurt myself. I started doing poorly in school. I couldn't care less. I was never able to mourn, or deal with my grief, and resolve my issues, because my parents told me never to talk abut it again. I had terrible nightmares, frequent panic attacks, and horrible flashbacks during my regular gynecological visits. I spent six years in this horrible place."

She was definitely not feeling "happy and relieved", and her life did not go back to normal. Planned Parenthood had misinformed her, once again.

"Basically everything they told me that would be avoided by the abortion ended up happening, and worse."

Mrs. Weideman said it had unintended consequences even a decade later, when she wanted to be a Mom, because it effected the way she looked at her children, making what should beautiful moments of motherhood "bitter-sweet" at best. She said it was "very difficult" with her first two children.

"I was so sad and angry at myself for what I had done. How could I have destroyed that? How could I have been so selfish?".

She pointed out that "when you're pregnant and you want the baby, you realize what you did, because the doctor gives you all this information about what your baby is doing already, and what he looks like, and how developed he is."

"When you don't want the baby, they don't give you any of that information." She questioned how that can be ethical or even legal, since the biological facts are the same regardless of how the mother feels about them. "Usually when a girl aborts, she's young and has never seen (fetal development) pictures."

Mrs. Weideman now knows many post-abortive women and what strikes her is how similar all of their stories are. She has learned that abortion clinics "try to misinform girls as much as possible" to get them to go through with the abortion. She said they know the girl is under pressure, and they take advantage of it. "Their business is based on pressure. I haven't spoken to one post-abortive woman who wasn't under a huge amount of pressure to abort. It's always the same story: before, during, and after."

And while her parents were part of that pressure, she still finds it astonishing that in this state, legislators refuse to protect minor girls from their Planned Parenthood friends who want to take advantage of these girls. She pointed out how absurd it is that a school can't give a child an aspirin without a parent's permission. "Then there's no way someone should be able to do an abortion on them. An abortion can kill a girl. It's a horrific procedure, absolutely horrible. It's borders on rape, just the simple mechanics of it."

A Second Unwanted Abortion
Part of her downward spiral actually included a second abortion, two years after the first. She said her parents had a lot to do with the second one also. "The second time I found I was pregnant, everyone was again pressuring me to have an abortion, even after seeing what the first one did to me."

"I wouldn't say I didn't care that time, it's more like I didn't even know what normal was anymore."

The second abortion happened in Seattle. She said she actually doesn't remember the clinic, because "it was all a blur".

“This story just shows how incredibly unethical these people are,” she added. “I don't know how they can call themselves medical professionals.”

“I was in the operating room and I just broken down crying. Then my Mom told me 'we aren't leaving until you've had an abortion'."

She said there was a nurse watching this whole episode. So did the nurse intervene and say they weren't going to do a medical procedure on an 18-year-old girl that was clearly not her choice?

No.

"After the procedure was over, they all literally ran out of there leaving me on the table crying. That's how unethical they are. They don't care less about these girls."

"The fallout from the second one made the first one look like a walk in the park. An abortion kills part of you and you can never get that back again."

This fallout included big problems trusting people, and major consequences in terms of anger, or rage.

"I couldn't forgive myself for the second one. The first I could rationalize, but the second one was my fault. I just hated msyelf. I was in an abyss of misery. I had constant nightmares, panic attacks, and was completely paranoid."

Eventual Healing
Mrs. Weideman did find help, though. She found healing after she became a Christian, at age 24, through the Tri-Cities pregnancy center. (This is one of the centers that Planned Parenthood and its friends in the Democrat Party, like California Rep. Henry Waxman, are trying to shut down.)

She said they had a program called Healing & Recovery After Abortion. "I was at a point where I realized I was either going to have to find a way out of this, or take my life. I was having crying jags every night."

It was her sister, who had become a Christian two years earlier, who told her about it. At first she dismissed it, having been raised as an atheist, by parents who were very hostile to Christianity and Christians. But she was so desperate that she decided to give it a chance.

"The lady on the phone was so kind, so compassionate. Like most of the women in the program, she had had an abortion, and she told me that everything I was going through was normal. It was such a relief to know I wasn't crazy. Their counseling was amazing. I went through it twice, once for each abortion. I found forgiveness in Jesus. God has really worked miracles in my life."

Mrs. Weideman is now happily married with four children.

Who Really Has the STD Problem?

At the June Pasco Planning Commission Meeting, Benton Franklin Health Department representative, Sandy Owen, testified in support of Planned Parenthood. She claimed Franklin County was experiencing significantly higher rates of chlamydia compared to Benton, and that by some unspecified inference this suggested a need for a PP clinic, in part because the government had no funds for its own clinic.

What was odd, though, was that she cited data from their 2006-2007 annual report. She didn't mention the 2008 annual report, or provide any explanation as to why that most recent data was not used.

In fact, that report does exist, and it shows the following:

Chlamydia Cases

County'06'07'08
Benton375374513
Franklin284287262

In other words, the most current data -- which Ms. Owen failed to cite -- shows that Benton County, which has a Planned Parenthood (abortion) clinic, showed a huge jump in chlamydia cases, from 374 to 513. Meanwhile, Franklin County, which is Planned Parenthood free, showed a decline!

When asked about this, Ms. Owen responded with some rates data from their epidemiologist. This data showed an even starker decline in Franklin County, from 715 (per 100,000) to 373 (per 100,000). It didn't show the increase in Benton for some unexplained reason.

In her defense, Ms. Owen told us via email: "As you can see Franklin County has a higher Chlamydia incidence rate compared to Benton County for all three years." She did not, however, address the stunning trends, or explain the discrepancy between the published raw data for Benton County in 2008 and her epidemiologist's rate data.

The only explanation she offered for the spike in chlamydia cases in Planned Parenthood-infested Benton County was due to an increase in reporting:
"The increase in numbers may be due to the chlamydia project that has begun in Benton and Franklin Counties whereby outreach to physicians and other providers to encourage testing and reporting may have resulted in increased numbers."
I pointed out, however, that this should have effected rates in both counties, not just Benton. To date, no further explanation has been forthcoming from Ms. Owen, or her boss, Larry Yecha. We will keep you updated with any further developments.

Further questions were raised about Ms. Owens' judgment when she argued at the planning meeting in defense of PP's proximity to vulnerable children by claiming that:
"Children do not know what Planned Parenthood is about unless their parents teach them what Planned Parenthood is about."
Does Ms. Owens really believe that kids don't talk to each other about this sort of thing?

Why Would Planned Parenthood Even Want to Force Its Way Into Our Community?

The Pasco Planning Commission voted to postpone its decision on the Planned Parenthood permit out of fear of a lawsuit.

The question nobody has asked, however, is: why would PP resort to such an extreme measure to try to force itself on the community of Pasco?

If their own propaganda is to be believed, their mission is to help the communities they are in, not to push some ideological agenda, or make money.

But if the people of Pasco, through their representatives, have said "Thanks, but no thanks", wouldn't you expect a polite person to realize it's time to say, "OK, goodbye"?

There are only 3 possible explanations:
1) It IS about the money. I.e., just like a private, for-profit corporation, like an asphalt company, PP sees the chance to make money and is going to do what it has to in order to see those profits realized.
2) It is about ideology: PP wants to bring their radical agenda of abortion on demand, sexualization of minors, and the complete extrication of morality from sexuality to this community.
3) They truly believe they are offering something that will serve the greater good that the community is too ignorant to understand.

There are certainly cases where a community can reject a new organization moving in even though it does serve the greater good. Think of a sewage treatment plant. It may be that nobody wants it near their house or property, but everyone agrees in principle that it's good and necessary. So the question is: in what ways is Planned Parenthood like a sewage treatment plant?

Does PP provide some benefit to any of the communities that it's in that is profound and compelling? We've already explained that Washington State Planned Parenthoods poison communities in the following ways:

  • They murder thousdands of innocent babies,
  • They have been widely accused of facilitating rape and sexual abuse,
  • They've caused women years of emotional trauma and psychological damage because of abortions they were pressured or tricked into,
  • They're being investigated for millions of dollars in fraud and stealing from taxpayers,
  • They've slandered and tried to undermine true non-profit pregnancy centers that help women with non-homicidal medical care, and
  • They've worked to outlaw abstinence-based education.
  • And they've made millions of dollars in the process.

But does the supposedly "good" work they claim to do outweigh all this? By good work, they mean providing low-cost medical care to women with STDs, and low-cost STD and pregnancy prevention?

Well, we already know that there are many other existing options for the low-cost medical care. So how about the prevention? Well, we've already shown that there is simply no data anywhere in Washington State to support the notion that PP's presence in a community leads to fewer abortions, or fewer STDs. PP of Western Washington has 23 clinics and yet they are doing 50% more abortions than just 3 years ago. PP Kennewick has been around a long time, and the Benton County chlamydia rate just jumped almost 40% from 2007 to 2008.

So we can rule out option number 3 as a possible explanation for why PP of Central Washington would try to force their way into the Pasco community as extremely unwelcome guests. That just leaves options 1 and 2.

Pasco Should Follow Longview's Lead: Just Say No to Drive-By Women's "Health Care"

Some critics believe Pasco should take a page out of Longview's playbook and 'just say no' to Planned Parenthood's drive-by, profit-oriented approach to sexual and reproductive health care.

As reported by the blog Abortion In Washington, the city of Longview, in southwest Washington, kicked Planned Parenthood out of their town because the group was only interested in making money -- in stark contrast to their much touted 'non-profit' image -- and also because the Longview commissioners realized that PP wasn't willing or able to provide the long-term doctor-patient relationships which are part of a proper approach to health care. Wrote AIW:
... [Planned Parenthood of Western Washington] kept asking for more and more money from the county ... and then insisted on offering their high-margin services which the county wasn’t interested in, e.g., birth control, emergency contraception.

Much like Franklin County, Cowlitz County was dealing with an STD outbreak and a significant uptick in teen pregnancy rates. They were looking for a health care provider that would be focussed on those areas, including both prevention and care.
Despite the public image it has so successfully cultivated, PPWW was not sufficiently interested in providing services with that focus, said Commissioner Johnson. She also said they wanted a provider which would care for pregnant women the traditional way, i.e., helping both patients, the mother and the unborn child. As PPWW spokesman Brian Cutler told us in a previous interview, “if a woman plans to keep her baby, she’s probably not going to come to Planned Parenthood.”

Finally, Longview officials realized that good health care involves long-term relationships between primary care physicians and patients, not 'one-day stands' with out-of-town medical staff, churning through patients, doling out birth control like fast food:

Carlos Carreon, director of the Cowlitz County Public Health Department, ... [said] that after months of ultimately fruitless discussions with PPWW, it just struck him that there was a much better way to provide residents with high quality health care.

“It was sort of an ‘Oh-duh’ moment,” he said frankly. Instead of "trying so hard to fit a square peg in a round hole", he realized it would make far more sense to partner with the Family Health Center, a local non-profit health care provider with full-time M.D’s and R.N’s to serve as the clients’ primary care providers and able to establish a long-term medical relationship.

This contrasts with PPWW’s clinic which would parachute an R.N. once a week from upstate to walk-in clients without any long-term relationship. (Finding a local R.N. willing to work full-time for Planned Parenthood was proving impossible.) “This was just a superior model of care,” he explained.

Past Client of PPCW Wants PP Kept Out of Pasco: "No loving, caring caregivers there"

The following is testimony given to the Pasco Planning Commission, June 18, 2009:

My name is Christine W. and I live [Pasco] and I am here to say that I don't want Planned Parenthood in our community, and I have very personal reasons for that.

When I was 16, I found out I was pregnant. I was terrified. All of my family and friends told me that an abortion would fix all my problems. So I went to the Planned Parenthood in Kennewick.

I was treated like a number. There were no loving, caring caregivers there!

After my abortion, my life just fell apart. All the things that everyone was worried about happening to me happened because I was so upset at myself. To me that wasn't a blob of tissue; it was a baby.

Our girls deserve better than this. Our sisters, our daughters, and our mothers. If we are truly caring people, then instead of asking them to choose between their baby and money, or their baby and education, or their boyfriend, or their husband, we should instead provide loving, caring support for those women.

I have talked to a lot of women who have had abortions, and the saddest thing I hear from them is: "If I had only known, if I had only known, I would have never done it."

That's the saddest thing, because it's a lifelong decision. You have to live with it for the rest of your life. Forever.

(Anna Franks, president of Planned Parenthood of Central Washington, who was also present at the meeting, was not solicited for comment or feedback.)

Whoa! Nice House, Mrs. Franks!

How would you like to live in a custom-built, 3500 square foot home, situated on 4 acres of land?

What if your "paved rounded drive leads to an oversized three bay garage and a classic front porch with slate tile"? Or if the description continued:
"A large knotty alder wood front door greets guests into an exquisite foyer with custom curved stair case of maple and wrought iron. The warmth is enhanced by the solid hand scraped teak plank flooring throughout the home. The main level features the master suite complete with morning sun cascading into the tiled master bedroom. The great room with its custom slate hearth and wood mantle accenting the gas fireplace has a wall of windows gazing out toward Mt. Adams. All this opens to a spacious kitchen featuring GE Monogram and Dacor appliances, a honed granite island, two sinks and enough counter space to meet all needs. The library has a sophisticated quality with lighted display ledges. A second staircase leads from the upper bedrooms down to the laundry room for easy access. An extensive sound system is installed throughout the house which includes a 7.1 surround home theater in the copious audio/video room."

Well, not everyone can live in such a nice place. But you can if you run Central Washington's largest chain of abortion clinics! That's right, this home belongs to the CEO of the "non-profit" Planned Parenthood of Central Washington (PPCW), Mrs. Anna Franks, and her husband, James Franks.

It was custom built but Brad Hend, at 538 Selah Ridge Drive, Selah, Washington. It is so nice, it was even featured in a home magazine.

Now Mrs. Franks can live in as expensive a home as she wants, given her $130,000 a year salary, but it's important for everyone dealing with this organization to realize that the "non-profit" status of Planned Parenthood masks a fact that everyone who has ever dealt with them has learned: It's. All. About. The. Money.

Commission Wanted to do Right Thing, Agreed to Wait

The Pasco Planning Commission almost did the right thing last night at its meeting. It was ready to vote no on Planned Parenthood of Central Washington's permit application, by a margin of 5 against, 1 in favour, and 2 abstentions.

But Rick White, Pasco's community and economic development director, convinced a majority of the commissioners that their rationale didn't line up closely enough with the six criteria that must be used, and left them vulnerable to a lawsuit.

As a result, they voted to table the decision for one month. Two commissioners disagreed with Mr. White. Todd Samuel, commission chair, wanted to go ahead and vote now. Jana Kempf agreed with him.

Mr. Samuel cited many of the concerns of residents in explaining his vote, including the damage to the neighborhood, and the expected decline in property values. He also pointed out that the argument that the community was in need of low-income reproductive health care services was bogus, because of the presence of numerous existing local alternatives.

According to the Tri-City Herald, which has been criticized for being a propaganda outlet for Planned Parenthood, Mr. White cited an extremely controversial court ruling. "[He] said a previous court case prevented the commission from considering the presence of legal or illegal protesters in denying the permit."

Commission members Tony Schouviller, James Hay, Jana Kempf, David Little, and Todd Samuel sided with the community, and voted to protect Pasco children from Planned Parenthood.

The abortion industry only managed to get one vote, from Dr. Ray Rose, who had previously indicated his support for population control, and reiterated last night that he didn't think Planned Parenthood's massive moral outrages should be a factor in the commission's decision.

One commissioner abstained, citing his wife's public support for Planned Parenthood.

There was clear concern that Planned Parenthood might summon the help of their friends in the judiciary and try to force their way into Pasco. Planned Parenthood has a long track record of going to court when they can't get their way via the democratic process. And because of their hugely deep pockets, lined in part from illegal Medicaid revenues, they have the financial resources available.

It is expected that residents of Pasco will continue to work over the next month to ensure the commissioners stick with their convictions and stand up for the health and well being of Pasco children.

Planned Parenthood Sex Ed for 10 Year Olds Ruled Unsuitable for Prisoners!

WARNING: You may find the contents of this video offensive and disturbing.

So do we -- because this video shows actual examples of illustrations and text that national leaders of Planned Parenthood believe your 8, 9, or 10 year old should see in the book "It's Perfectly Normal".

Meanwhile, an unspecified Washington State prison reported rejected the book from its premises on the grounds of it being obscene and pornographic.

Please Attend Next Planning Commission Meeting

Please turn out to attend the Thursday, July 16 meeting of the Pasco Planning Commission where they will announce whether or not they will allow Planned Parenthood of Central Washington, the region, state, and country's largest chain of abortion clinics, a use permit to open a new clinic next to Mark Twain Elementary School.

The meeting will be at 5 PM at Pasco City Hall. Bear in mind that representatives of the abortion industry will be wearing pink t-shirts, so wearing a pink top may give a false impression.

Planned Parenthood of Central Washington Goes Under Cover!

This is one of the stranger indictments against Planned Parenthood of Central Washington (PPCW). But it’s still disturbing and indicative of the moral abyss inside that organization.

On April 22, 2008, Human Life of Washington president, Dan Kennedy, received the following email from someone using the email address “stillwaters98901@yahoo.com”:
“I'd like to recieve [sic] your newsletter. I'm new to the pro-life movement and really don't know who to get in contact with.”
It was signed:
“Shirley Wade, Yakima, WA”.
But when he hit “reply”, the email program found a different name in the “reply-to” field. The following appeared:

It turns out Gina Popovic is no other than the Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood of Central Washington! Apparently she was attempting to infiltrate the local pro-life movement. But she wasn’t through.

Two days later, on April 24, the Washington chapter of another state-wide pro-life organiziation got an online registration from a “Shirley Wade” in Yakima, also using the email address “stillwaters98901@yahoo.com”.

We’d like to know if Ms. Popovic, or her boss Ms. Franks, can tell us if this sort of duplicity and dishonesty is typical of how PPCW conducts itself.

Most Extreme Pro-Abortion Organization in America

Simply put, not only is Planned Parenthood the largest single practitioner of abortion in the United States, but they are the most extremist pro-abortion organization in the country. They actively and aggressively oppose any and all legislation to regulate the abortion industry in any way. And when the people pass a law to protect unborn children or regulate abortionists or in any way threaten the profits or lifestyles of Planned Parenthood executives or doctors, they go to court, all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.

They support abortion right up to the moment of birth, regardless of the health of the baby, or the circumstances of impregnation. They have actively opposed partial-birth abortion bans. They oppose any age limits. They oppose any form of mandatory parental involvement. They think women should be able to get 8, 9, or 10 abortions if they want. They oppose being forced to report cases of statutory rape.

They are also “anti-choice” if that choice is NOT abortion. For example, they want to force medical professionals to dispense abortifacient medicines against their conscience. They want abortion training to be mandatory at medical schools. They oppose laws prohibiting coerced abortion. They are involved in China’s coerced abortion regime. They want all abortions to be paid for by taxpayers, against their “choice”.

Anna Franks should tell the people of Pasco if any of this is untrue. She should give an example, any example, of an organization in America that is more extreme on abortion than they are. She should give an example of any case of an abortion that they have refused to do.

PP Slanders Pregnancy Care Clinics

Planned Parenthood’s website has a pages dedicated to slandering crisis pregnancy centers and pregnancy care clinics committed to offering women alternatives to abortion. The page is filled with outrageous lies aimed at some of the country’s most loving, caring, and sacrificial volunteers.

Ironically enough, the site accuses these non-profit charities of trying to frighten women with false information, exactly what PP is known for, and exactly what the webpage itself is doing!

PP tries to convince women that clinics offering alternatives to abortion may give them “incomplete or false information”, show “misleading films and pictures”, “may lie to you”, and even “may fool you into continuing your pregnancy” by telling “you that you are not pregnant even if you are.” It goes on to call them “fake clinics” and repeatedly accuses them of “tricking” women. It even includes a section called “How to avoid a crisis pregnancy center”!

Of course, not a single one of these slanderous and false accusations is backed up with any references or citations.

This kind of rhetoric is what fuels activities like the periodic protests by PP activists outside the clinics of Life Choices of King County in Seattle.

Many of us know individuals who work tirelessly on the selfless and loving front lines in these centers and clinics. Most work as volunteers. No-one makes any profit off of the decisions that their clients make. Medical care, including ultrasounds, is provided at no cost to clients. Compare that to Planned Parenthood, whose Washington State executives and abortionists pull down salaries of a quarter million dollars a year, as documented by this website, and whose revenues enable them to build brand new, shiny, expansive clinics for themselves in places like Yakima, Sunnyside, and Portland.

The ultimate evidence comes just by looking at the hope on the faces of the women leaving these clinics, and comparing that to the tears streaming down the faces of women leaving Planned Parenthood clinics.

Will Ms. Franks, executive director of PP of Central Washington, immediately remove these mean-spirited, hatemongering lies from her website and issue an unqualified apology for its having been posted in the first place?

PP Lies About Emergency Contraception

Several years ago, Washington State Planned Parenthoods were at the forefront of calls to legalize and distribute so-called 'emergency contraception', also known as the 'morning-after pill', or by its brand name, 'Plan B'.

They promised that if legalized and distributed, the abortion rate would plummet. These promises were clear and unequivocal, and a pivotal argument behind the decision by many authorities to approve its distribution.

What PP forgot to mention is that these drugs would net them millions of dollars in profits.

It also turns out that they were completely wrong about the effect of this drug on the abortion rate. The blog "Abortion in Washington" recently interviewed PPWW's Brian Cutler and blew the lid on this fraud:

The 2006 annual report even claims: “Unrestricted access to emergency contraception is preventing many hundreds of unintended pregnancies and abortions every month.” Yet PPWW is now selling 122,427 EC packs a year compared to zero just three years earlier, and yet the number of abortions is up 11% each year from 2004 [and up an amazing 50% in the last 3 years].

"I’m not really sure [why that is]", said Mr. Cutler.

I then asked: "Wasn't EC supposed to reduce the number of abortions?"

"That's the hope... One would expect that.... but does that really matter?"

You better believe it matters.

PPCW Has Not Reduced STD Rates

PPCW and its friends in the press have argued that because of the relatively high rates of STDs in Franklin County, it's essential to have their "education" and related programs in Pasco. The unstated assumption here seems to be that PPCW has some sort of track record in bringing down the rates of STDs and STIs.

Unfortunately, they have never provided any evidence to back up this assumption. Most experts agree that, on the contrary, bringing in PP to fight an STD outbreak is similar to hiring an arsonist to fight a fire.

Take King County, for example, where Planned Parenthood clinics have been popping up like lemonade stands in summer. It now has one of the highest density of PP clinics on earth. The chlamydia rate in 2001 was 244 (per 100,000). In 2008, it had risen to 286. Similarly, the gonorrhea rate rose from 88 to 106!

Search the entire websites of any of the Washington state PP affiliates for even any claimed evidence of their presence in a community reducing STD/STI rates. Let us know if you find any!

There Are Other Low-Income Healthcare Providers

PPCW has claimed that the community needs them because there are no other health care providers providing the sort of critical health care services they provide to low-income residents. This, of course, is nonsense and they know it.

Catholic Family & Child Services is just one example of a wholesome health care provider in the community. They have two locations in Pasco, on West Henry St. and West Margaret St.

Another is the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, at 1608 N. Road 44. There are many others.

Washington PPs Being Investigated for Medicaid Fraud/Overbilling

Planned Parenthood of Spokane/Eastern Washington has recently been in the news because it is being audited by the state as part of a Medicaid fraud investigation, and it seems that evidence of deliberate, systematic, year over year overbilling has been found, involving millions of dollars of taxpayers' money.

At the same time, the leadership of PP of Spokane has been forced out and Anna Franks, CEO of PP of Central WA, has taken over.

And it seems Planned Parenthood of Western Washington is being investigated for the exact same type of Medicaid fraud. PP of Central Washington has never denied involvement in these same schemes.

At issue is a government drug discount program known as "340B". Organizations like Planned Parenthood are able to purchase drugs like oral contraceptives and emergency contraception at enormous discounts, for as little as $2 per unit. They are actually allowed to sell these drugs at any markup they want, except in the case where the client is under Medicaid. In that case, the discount they received must be passed along to the government aka taxpayers. But it seems PP has been billing Olympia at the full Medicaid rates, about $21 per unit, an illegal $19 markup.

All this adds up to millions of dollars in illegal revenue. This is exactly the same type of fraud that is alleged in a $180 million lawsuit in California brought by a former PP insider. P. Victor Gonzalez was the Chief Financial Officer of PP of Los Angeles. He found this fraud going on there and tried to report it. The state started an audit, but Gonzalez was fired. Planned Parenthood managed to get their friends in the state government to call off the audit and let them go about ripping off the taxpayers as before, with some additional help from Sacramento. The case is currently on appeal.

Anna Franks needs to come forward immediately and disclose the receipts which indicate what price they are purchasing drugs for to clear this issue up once and for all.

PPCW Misleads Vulnerable Women about Abortion

Anna Franks' Planned Parenthood loves to talk about how her organization provides "scientifically and medically accurate" information regarding sexuality, insinuating and sometimes outright claiming that anti-perversity sexuality educators are guilty of something else.

The fact is, however, that when it comes to providing accurate information to vulnerable women in unplanned, unwanted, or crisis pregnancies, PP gets an "F".

Try looking at www.plannedparenthood.org for photographs, pictures, or drawings that show the development of an unborn baby inside a mother's womb! You will find nothing. No scientifically or medically accurate information about what it is that an abortion removes.

Washington state pregnancy centers also report that women who have been to PP clinics for their "options counseling" are denied access to ultrasounds that would let them see what their unborn child looks like moving around in their womb. Many pregnancy resource clinics offer these to women at no cost. The only way PP gives you an ultrasound is reportedly if and when you sign the form saying you'll take the abortion, and have paid for it in full! Some pregnancy care clinics report that as many as 90% of women find the strength to choose life for their baby after seeing him or her on an ultrasound monitor.

In fact, according to reports, PP seems to still be telling women that their baby is just a "blob of tissue", an abject medical fallacy. Ms. Franks needs to come forward and explain why she wants to be able to open a clinic in Pasco while she is using medically inaccurate and incomplete information to sell abortions to the vulnerable women of Central Washington.

Planned Parenthood of Central Washington Does Secret Abortions on Our Daughters

Planned Parenthood of Central Washington, like all PP affiliates, not only opposes any minimum age for an abortion, but also opposes all laws and regulations at any level of government requiring them to secure consent or even notify a minor's parent before getting that child to disrobe, submit to a surgical procedure on their most intimate part of their body, and permanently destroying the life inside their womb.

And this isn't just a theoretical matter. PPCW's doctors and staff practice what they believe. That means they would, and almost certainly have, had our own scared daughters come to their clinic in a panic, and scheduled and performed abortions on them, and sent them home, without ever notifying us. And they'll do it again and again and again. Because that's the kind of people they are. They're not like regular folks.

We challenge them: How many cases in the last year, or five years, can they point to where they called the parents of a terrified and confused young girl who came to them for an abortion because that was obviously the right thing to do, even though it would have cost them money and possibly meant one less abortion? Let's see Ms. Popovich or Franks come forward with that figure.

Abortion Referral Clinic Will Lower Business Property Values

A new abortion referral clinic will invite protest activity, right on Court Street. This will now be one of the first things visitors see as they come into town. This can only hurt the town's image, make customers less likely to visit and patronize local businesses, and ultimately lower commercial real estate values. Why would we want to do this?

In most towns, like Kennewick, Planned Parenthood at least has the "decency" to put their abortion & birth control clinics in something more approximating a back alley. There's a reason for that.

Because of Planned Parenthood's extremely controversial practices and record, their clinics are the site of regular protests and vigils which see many people outside for extended periods of time during business hours, walking around, holding up posters and signs. This is not exactly an ideal retail environment.

Moreover, while these protestors are peaceful, these events are often the sites of violence by abortion activists, and PP clients. This website documents a series of acts of violence, many near abortion clinics and abortion referral clinics, just in Washington state.

Letting PP open up right on our main street will be bad for all local businesses and bad for the local economy.

Where Has PPCW Reduced Abortions?

Some have argued that PPCW should be allowed to open a clinic on Pasco's 'main street' because the area has a high unplanned pregnancy rate, especially among teens. This seems to be based on the assumption, and we say assumption, that PPCW is in the business of reducing the unplanned pregnancy and abortion rate.

PPCW constantly argues that "nobody does more to reduce the need for abortion than us".

We would counter: Show us any place where this has turned out to be true?

Look at their western Washington counterparts, PP of Western Washington (PPWW). The last several years has been extremely good for PPWW. Their revenues have doubled to about $37 million per year. They have $40 million in the bank. They operate about 23 clinics. They're reaching a record number of clients with their birth control, "education", etc.

So what has happened to the number of abortions performed? It's shot up 50% in the last 3 years! Yes, you read that right.

In other words, More Planned Parenthood = More Abortion.

This pattern has held true wherever PP has extended its tentacles. The blog Abortion in Washington asked PPWW's Brian Cutler for any evidence whatsoever (e.g., internal or external studies) that their programs are achieving the desired outcomes. He had nothing.

If you look at abortion or unplanned pregnancy rates across the state and try to correlate them to the presence or absence of Planned Parenthood clinics and/or programs, there simply is no correlation.

If you look at how these rates compare before and after PP opens a new location, there is no evidence anywhere to suggest that the presence of PP reduces any of these rates.

No Abortions at New Location?

Planned Parenthood's apologists in the press have argued that since the largest single provider of abortions and largest abortion chain has said they won't initially be killing unborn babies at the Pasco clinic, the abortion issue is not part of this debate.

Seriously?

This would be like Al-Qaeda arguing that they should be allowed to set up a soup kitchen, as long as they don't conduct terrorist operations out of it!

Or how about if the Klu Klux Klan wanted to open a museum, as long as they didn't do lynchings there!

What if a Roman Catholic priest guilty of abuse came took over a parish near an elementary school, arguing that "the abuse happened at other parishes, it's not relevant"? The blatant absurdity of this line of argument is embarrassing, and frankly, the Tri-City Herald owes its readers an apology.

Moreover, there are countless Planned Parenthood clinics across the state and country which now perform abortions but which didn't always. In fact, Brian Cutler of PP of Western Washington told the blog Abortion in Washington that they've used their enormous revenues from the last few years to "upgrade" a host of clinics by "adding abortion services". Any reasonable observer would expect PP of Central Washington to do exactly the same thing in Pasco.

PP doesn't regard abortion as something to be avoided, reduced, or minimized. People who perform hundreds of thousands of abortions a year are not like normal people and don't have a scintilla of moral reservation about killing unborn babies. Adding chemical or surgical abortions to the Pasco roster is nothing more than expanding options or increasing the number of services available to women from their point of view. The only thing stopping them is a limitation on resources. As it is right now, they only have two doctors, Sara Cate and Elizabeth Bianchi, doing all the abortions for Central Washington, Eastern Washington, and Idaho. The difficulty of recruiting another itinerant abortionist is the only thing standing in their way.

Finally, nobody disputes the fact that they would obviously be providing "abortion counselling" and "abortion referrals" at the Pasco location. In other words, desperate and vulnerable girls would still meet with abortion saleswomen. Getting the abortion itself would be nothing more than a taxi ride over to Kennewick!

Don't insult our intelligence with this poppycock about "the Pasco PP wouldn't do abortions" nonsense for another minute.

Planned Parenthood Covers Up Rape

Numerous Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country have been exposed for covering up statutory rape. Lila Rose, a young woman from UCLA, has published 7 videos showing cases where Planned Parenthood clinics have been caught on tape helping her, pretending to be an underage girl impregnated by a much older boyfriend, a case of statutory rape, get an abortion without reporting the case to the authorities as required by law, or even coaching her how to lie to a judge to bypass parental consent laws.

This is consistent with cases in several states, including Ohio, Indiana, and Kansas where Planned Parenthood clinics aborted the babies of minor girls who had been impregnated by abusive older man, when the girls were brought there by the abuser, and the PP staff knew full well that they were dealing with a case of abuse and rape. In each case PP did the abortion and didn't report the abuse or rape to the authorities.

It seems that PP will do any abortion for any reason at any time under any circumstances.

Planned Parenthood is the Country's Largest Provider of Abortions

Planned Parenthood of Central Washington (PPCW) is a local affiliate of Planned Parenthood, whose affiliates across the country do more abortions each year than any other organization or business in the United States. PPCW alone operates 4 abortion clinics, in Kennewick, Ellensburg, Walla Walla, and Yakima. Their other clinic, in Sunnyside, provides "Abortion Referrals", which means it closes the abortion sale, but sends women to one of the other 4 clinics for the actual abortion.

Keep Planned Parenthood Away From Our Kids

Planned Parenthood of Central Washington wants to open a clinic on Court Street, right next to an elementary school. We don't intend to let them happen. Help us protect Pasco from these dangerous extremists, who are the nation's largest chain of abortion clinics.
